Grundig Business Systems invests in a machine park

Grundig Business Systems has put a new production line into operation in its Bayreuth plant. The company has decided to purchase a used wave soldering machine and is thus committed to sustainability. Before the second-hand wave soldering system came to GBS, it was completely cleaned by TWD GmbH with dry ice, a process for the gentle cleaning of metal surfaces.

Buying used machines is a good alternative in terms of environmental protection, as valuable resources in the production of new machines are saved on the one hand, and on the other hand, the amount of landfill waste is reduced. Also, the technological advantage in terms of ecology and functionality is not significantly higher with newer models. "As far as the soldering process is concerned, i.e. application, heating and the solder wave, there have been no outstanding changes in recent years," explains Thorsten Düvel, Managing Director of TWD GmbH. "We have been working with used machines from the PCB assembly industry for 26 years and our customers have always had good experiences with them." Before the used wave soldering machine came to GBS, it was completely cleaned by TWD GmbH with dry ice, a process for gently cleaning metal surfaces in particular. It was then carefully reconditioned.
Used machines have the additional advantage that they are immediately available and cheaper to buy than newer models. "The MWS 2340 is now our second THT wave soldering system from SEHO," explains Roland Hollstein, Managing Director of Grundig Business Systems. “It makes THT production here faster, safer and more flexible. We are also investing in further growth with this additional production line.” With the new capacity, the company wants to meet the growing demand for high-quality assembly services in Germany. The line will primarily benefit new customers from the automotive and medical technology sectors. "I am pleased that we have managed to expand despite the restrictions caused by the pandemic," said Hollstein. "This makes Germany a more attractive location for many customers and helps them adjust back to the country."
